Sharp Imaging was selected for the 2008 BERTL’s BEST award for “Most Secure Multifunctional Peripheral (MFP) Range” Award, making this the fifth straight time the company has won the award in this category.

Sharp MFPs ensures security at every step of the document lifecycle, right from the initial scan to the final output and distribution with a host of network authorization and security options, including Kerberos, IPSEC and SSL. These allow users to easily control and monitor the Sharp MFP. By utilizing account codes, user/group profiles, passwords, external user accounts or access cards, Sharp users can prevent and limit unauthorized access to each device. These machines also include advanced fax and email security features.

The BERTL’s Best awards are recognition for the best devices and software in the digital imaging marketplace, accorded after a thorough review of hundreds of digital imaging devices, software and management utilities.

Epson has introduced a new model, the Epson Stylus NX400, of a new generation of all-in-one printers that provides printing, scanning and copying, combining great performance and convenience. Moreover, the printer can provide excellent results on plain, photo and specialty papers. The printer uses Epson’s DURABrite Ultra ink which is smear- and smudge- resistant; in fact, even the plain-paper prints can reportedly last about 6 times longer that comparable models. The machine can deliver up to 34 ppm for black and color text documents, 4” x 6” borderless photos in as fast as 26 seconds, and up to 30 cpm for both black and color copies. The photocopying and scanning capabilities make it ideal for preserving important documents and photos digitally with one-touch color copying and high-quality scanning. Moreover, this MFP integrates a single-touch standalone copying feature for photos and documents, with the option to reduce and enlarge black and white or color copies from 25 to 400 percent and quickly enlarge 4” x 6” and 5” x 7” photos up to letter size.

Toshiba TEC Imaging Systems has teamed up with KIP UK to offer customers wide-format multifunction printing (MFP) solutions starting with the KIP3000 wide-format MFP. With this agreement, Toshiba can meet customer needs for wide-format scanning, copying and printing as part of their overall print and document management solution.

KIP MFP Wide Format Solutions provide high definition digital A0 and A1-sized copying, scanning and printing – without the need for a centralized print room. They are highly intuitive with easy to use and understand touch screen control. The initial launch sees the introduction of the KIP3000 a system, which has a print speed of around 2.5 A0-sized pages per minute. The latest versions of the KIP 3000 can be configured to deliver one touch full colour scanning together with high quality colour copying capability to an existing wide format inkjet printer.

The KIP 3000 is ideally suited for use in the design, building, and engineering sectors.

Digital imaging research specialist Lyra Research is hosting a live webcast titled “The 411 on MFP/ Copier usage trends” on April 29, 2008 at 12 noon eastern daylight time (US).The call will reveal several new findings from the company based on usage data from over 65000 copiers, MFPs and printers used by both small-medium sized businesses and large businesses in North America. Those interested in understanding these trends can register on the company website at www.lyra.com.

The webcast will be presented by Frank Stefansson, CEO and executive vice president of Lyra Research, and Cortney Kasuba, industry analyst and program manager for laser consumables. It will explore the continuing preference for monochrome printing despite increase in spending on color printing devices such as copiers, single-function printers, and MFPs. Even though the data, strategic analysis and insight is based on data collected in North America, we expect the information to help copier, MFP and printer vendors here in the UK or Europe also to evaluate and track the different patterns in the office environment. According to Kasuba, “The Webcast will examine MFPs from vendors such as Xerox, Ricoh, and Konica Minolta, and explore the relationship between average print volumes, color and monochrome printing, and color and monochrome copying. Lyra’s OPM research has found that, over the 12 months for which we analyzed data, monochrome printing in this comparison still hovered around 70 percent, regardless of the speed or price of the peripheral and despite the increasing color-capable installed base.”

The CX3641 MFP (multifunction product) is the first to embed document management integration and color management capabilities as standard features. By removing the need for additional dedicated PCs and servers, the CX3641 MFP can be easily integrated into existing document management systems.

The advanced features allow IT professionals to simplify complex and time-consuming processes to boost workgroup productivity, manage costs and still have the support of a robust business color MFP for standard business use.

The CX3641 MFP includes the company’s proprietary High Definition (HD) Color and Single Pass Color Technologies. The company claims that users will save significantly on time and money as they will not have to outsource their color printing and copying requirements. The product offers top quality business color printing and copying at up to 36ppm, black & white (monochrome) and up to 40ppm color for increased productivity.

Konica Minolta has unveiled two new MFP options to enhance the capabilities of the company’s multifunctional products (MFPs).

The LK-101 i-Option and LK-102 i-Option allow web access and document manipulation from an MFP control panel (LK-101) and also support enhanced PDF encryption. i-Option will extend the security, printing, copying and scanning features of the bizhub MFPs. One of the biggest advantages is that users can access the web directly from the Image Panel (Control Panel) that features document management capabilities from the MFP. LK-102 i-Option is ideal for high-security environments since it offers AES 128-bit encryption.

According to a senior executive of the company, the i-Option shows the “flexibility and extensibility of the bizhub OP system architecture”. Moreover, the fact that the enhancements are software-based allows the latest MFP options to be added without having to replace the hardware.

Perceptive Software has released ImageNow Interact for HP, a document management software that enables users of any skill level to electronically capture and distribute documents directly from an HP multifunction product (MFP) to a fully-integrated SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, or any other enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

With this feature, organizations have the ability to integrate the enterprise document management solution into their existing HP investments. ImageNow optimizes the use of HP multifunction products and integrates core business applications in any business environment using ImageNow’s patented integration technology called LearnMode.

This integration will help organizations save time, image-enable business processes with the push of a button, eliminate cost, risk and delay with traditional document capture and processing.
The solution supports a broad range of models in the HP multifunction product line, providing a simple, non-programmatic approach for HP customers.

Xerox Corp., universally known as one of the world’s leading makers of photocopiers, embarked on a multi-million dollar marketing and branding campaign to shrug off its image as a copier maker and instead highlight its software products, colour printers and other cutting-edge products.

As one of the most visible steps in this direction, the company unveiled a new logo and called it the greatest transformation of the company’s identity in its chequered history. The all-capitalized corporate name in red, which had been used in various versions for 14 years, has been replaced with a lowercase version.

From being the top manufacturer of photocopiers, the $16-billion enterprise is now a diversified document management technology and service enterprise making printing and publishing systems, multi-function devices (MFPs), laser and solid ink network printers, copiers and fax machines. Xerox also has a very deep service portfolio.
